Big Law Country Club Gallery presents EyeBodega: Work in ProgressSeptember 18–October 15, 2014EyeBodega will present Work in Progress at Big Law Country Club beginning September 18. The show consists of a working graphic design studio, hand built to fit the space and provide a productive environment in which EyeBodega will create a set of new work based around the threefold ideas of reproduction, process, and information-sharing. Design, as a medium, depends on an open and public flow of visual ideas. Eyebodega plan to use Work in Progress as an opportunity to create a public forum for their concepts in progress. As the show progresses, the studio will create a series of commissioned and self-initiated zines in the space which can be considered to be either materials or manuals for others to create their own work. By working in public, the studio will invite the public to comment and interact with them while they make these zines, creating the possibility of influence from this public exchange. The first thing any design studio needs is a desk and chairs. To build their furniture, Eyebodega turned to the work of designer Enzo Mari and his landmark book “Autoprogettazione?” They translated his DIY furniture both literally and artistically, producing a unique set of simple office furniture suited to their project. During the show, the studio will run workshops where the public can learn more about Mari and his chairs, building their own from schematics the team modified to work in the United States.EyeBodega is a multi-disciplinary New York City design studio founded by Rob Chabebe and Joe Perez, with the assistance of Ari Spool. Their work has been flatteringly described as “post-apocalyptic modernism.” The group works in a variety of visual media ranging from print to interactive to video. Special thanks to Kenny Batu, Caroline David, Borja Urque and Zach Smith. Learn more at Eyebodega.comOctober 11th please join EyeBodega at the Silent Barn for a DIY furniture building workshop.
